The Beaumont Chiefs grabbed a dominant win and a close loss this week, facing off with some of the Capital Junior Hockey League’s top contenders.

The Chiefs added another win against the Spruce Grove Regals on Oct. 15, scoring 5-1.

On Oct. 11 the Chiefs played the Beverly Warriors, moving into overtime after a competitive match-up and losing 5-4.

“Friday was up against the best team that we’ve faced all year. The Beverly Warriors are perennially one of the top teams in the league. So I was really looking forward to using that game as kind of a measuring stick to see where we were and we showed up and we played really well. We matched up well against them,” said head coach Anthony D’Amore.

The Chiefs stuck to their system, D’Amore explained, and were ahead 4-2 when the Warriors managed to tie the score in the end of the game.

“Ultimately, we went to a shootout, where it’s a coin flip and they managed to sneak away with the win … but overall I’m pretty happy with how we played.”

D’Amore said he is looking forward to the next matchup with the Beverly Warriors, anticipating another high-octane game.

This week the Chiefs are on the road to take on the Fort Saskatchewan Hawks on Oct. 18, the St. Albert Merchants on Oct. 20 and will be back at home to face the Strathcona Bruins on Oct. 22 at the Ken Nichol Regional Recreation Centre.

“I know [Fort Saskatchewan] generally tends to be a strong team, but with the way the team has tightened up in the defensive zone and the way we’ve kind of had the pieces fall together with regards to our powerplay and penalty kill, I’m feeling pretty confident.”
