The Beaumont Chiefs were back on the ice for their first exhibition game of 2020 last weekend.
On Friday, Oct. 2, the Chiefs faced off with the Spruce Grove Regals at the Ken Nichol Regional Recreation Centre. The Chiefs won a decisive 10-0 victory on their home ice.
“It was a good outing right from the opening faceoff,” said Anthony D’Amore, the Chiefs head coach. “We had a mix of returning guys and some brand new players and I think everybody showed well.”
The regular season is expected to go ahead as scheduled, with Chiefs’ home games on Friday nights at 8 p.m. at the Ken Nichol arena. Crowd sizes will be limited to 100 fans, and tickets are available for presale online or at the doors on game night.
“It was good to have fans in the stands,” D’Amore said. “The boys were pumped – they were ready to go. They’ve been skating for quite a few weeks already … and overall it was a pretty good night.”
D’Amore said the regular season schedule is still tentative and that all teams will be restricted to playing within their cohorts.
Although there are still some details to work out with the Capital Junior Hockey League as far as COVID regulations and game schedules for the season, the Beaumont Chiefs and their fans are glad to have hockey season back.
“In the coming weeks the muddy waters will get a little bit clearer in how things are going to be moving forward.”
