Sara McCarver was announced as the August 2019 Youth of the Month winner at the Chantal Bérubé Youth Centre on Sept. 11. For her accomplishment, she was presented with a certificate and a cheque for $100 from the Chantal Bérubé Memorial Fund.
She was nominated by the City of Beaumont summer camp program for her hard work, teamwork and leadership in her volunteer position.
“I’ve been working there for two years now and I got promoted to a higher position this year. It was a lot of fun working with the kids,” McCarver said. “It’s so fun to see the smiles on campers’ faces because I know how much I loved going to summer programs when I was little. It was a great group of people to work with and I loved going into work every day.
“I think I’m going to save [the $100] for my first car,” she said. “After school I think I might want to save up some money and travel … all over [Europe] with my friends.”
McCarver will be the first of the 2019-20 Youth of the Month winners and will be eligible to win the annual Youth of the Year award in September 2020.
The Chantal Bérubé Memorial Fund is an ongoing fund that supports a number of youth-related initiatives in the Beaumont community, including the Youth of the Month program and a number of initiatives at the Chantal Bérubé Youth Centre.
The Youth of the Month award is open to any and all youth in Beaumont who should be recognized for their outstanding contributions or achievements. Teachers, parents or friends wanting to nominate a youth they know can do so through the CBYC website.
The CBYC also has a centre app with a calendar of upcoming events and profiles of all Youth of the Month winners.
