Actor Ryan Hurst was hospitalized for heat exhaustion while filming The Walking Dead.

Hurst plays Beta, the second in command of The Whisperers – a nomadic group of people who disguise themselves with masks made from the skins of the dead – in the hit show.

While the star loves his role in the hit comic book series, he told Entertainment Weekly his elaborate costume got a little too much during filming in Georgia over the summer, landing him in hospital.

“Oh my God. I landed in the hospital once this year from heat exhaustion,” he recalled. “I’m in a leather trench coat and two layers under that in Georgia in the summer. It’s no joke, man.”

Despite the injury, however, he previously told the outlet he loves getting into character for the show, explaining: “I wish I could say that I hate it, but I love it!

“Even though you’re in Atlanta in 110-degree weather, I love wearing that mask. I really, really do,” he added. “Every single job that I seem to do for long periods of time, I’m in 10 layers of leather in 110-degree heat,” Ryan Hurst added. “I don’t know why the universe has sort of put that in my path, but I’ve sort of accepted it at this point.”

Season 10 of The Walking Dead airs Sundays on AMC.
