Two young Beaumont residents have published their first novel with plans for a second already in the works.
École Saint-Vital Grade 6 student Livia Rainville and Grade 7 student Marie-Soleil Breton finished their novel earlier in June after working on it for two years. The girls decided to write the novel because they both love reading and writing.
The Spooky Mystery at Sunset Camp is about two friends who are forced to join a summer camp over break. Once there they realize there’s a ghost living at the camp and try to solve the mystery surrounding it. While dealing with that they also have to worry about the camp potentially being closed down.
Breton said all the characters in the book are based on real people in her and Rainville’s lives. She said they created a bond while working on it, often laughing and talking rather than getting any work done.
The girls decided to write the novel on their own so when they presented it to their parents and teachers it was a surprise. Beaumont’s Breton Excavation Inc. sponsored the publication of the novel.
Breton said they’re already working on their next project.
“We started writing a second book. We’re not 100 per cent sure what it’s going to be about but it’s going to be based on the same characters and will be a continuation of their story.”
